STANARDSVILLE — Madison County football coach Stuart Dean knows that the reward for beating William Monroe is a full year of bragging rights.
“For the community in Madison and the community in Greene, it’s a game that people talk about for 364 days,” Dean said.
The good news for Dean is that the bragging rights are his after his Mountaineer team ran over the Greene Dragons 28-0 on the road.
“Our defense did an outstanding job,” Dean said. “On offense we just pounded and pounded the ball. The line did a good job tonight.”
For the next 364 days the Madison community can talk about Logan Terrell and Devon Boone who accounted for three of the four Mountaineers touchdowns.
Terrell finished the night with 110 yards on 17 carries while Boone amassed 128 yards on 22 attempts.
Overall, Madison almost doubled William Monroe’s total yards, with Madison gaining 299 total and Monroe with 132 and Madison scored in each of the four quarters.
Devon Boone kicked off the scoring with a one yard rush with 6:52 to go in the first quarter. But just prior to that play, quarterback Will Taylor had to come out due to an injury. He did not return.
Instead, it was backup Dustin Kirby who threw for the next touchdown as receiver Antonio Childress caught his 33 yard touchdown pass with 10:47 on the clock in the second.
