The local triathlon season has been winding down the past several weeks with area athletes competing in a variety of events.

Alex Forte of the Bike Stop Pro Team led the squad at the Culpeper Sprint Triathlon in August, finishing second overall. Bike Stop teammate Julia Peck and Jacob Aber finished second and fifth in their divisions.

Forte also finished 15th in her division at the USAT National Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala., on Aug. 22, finishing the 1.5K swim, 40K bike ride and 10K run in 2:26:35. The finish was good enough to qualify her for the 2010 ITU World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Forte also competed as a member of Team USA at the 2009 ITU World Age-Group Championships in Australia last month, finishing 43rd in her division and 120th overall in a time of 2:19:02.

The Bike Stop Pro Team cyclists have also been busy. Michele Scherer finished fifth in her division at the 540 Cycling Development Criterium in Warrenton. Brian Marsh and Jacob Aber finished first and second in their divisions at the Greenbelt Training Series. Marsh, Aber and Scherer finished first, second and 11th at the Page Valley Road Race. Marsh also finished first at the Stampede on Horseshoe Mountain in Nelson County in August and fifth at the Yankee Clipper XC Race in New York.

In non-Bike Stop news, Culpeper native Anne Richardson competed in the Giant Acorn International Triathlon last week at Lake Anna, finishing 92nd.
