The Madison Mountaineers won their first Bull Run District game Saturday 21-14 over the Manassas Park Cougars.

Both the offense and the defense accomplished the goals set forth to them by coach Stuart Dean and played with more intensity than in prior games.

"We wanted to be there and executed well on both sides of the ball," Dean said

Execute is what the Madison offense was able to do, especially in the passing game. Quarterback Will Taylor was 13 of 19 for 146 yards. He also threw a touchdown to tight end Dylan Shifflette for 15 yards in the second quarter with 47 seconds to go.

Taylor was also the second leading rusher, with 36 yards on four carries. He had a 23-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Madison's leading rusher, Logan Terrell, had 92 yards on 22 carries. He also scored in the fourth quarter on a four-yard run with 11:33 to go.

Dylan Shifflette was Taylor's favorite target, catching four passes for 61 yards and the touchdown. Devon Boone had three catches for 28 yards, and Logan Dodson and Terrell each had two catches to support the Madison cause. The only black mark on the night was the three interceptions that Taylor threw.

Madison's defense was also able to stop the potent Cougar offense and held the rushing game to 120 yards
Madison recovered Cougar fumbles in the first and fourth quarters during critical Manassas Park drives, both in Mountaineer territory. Andre Parker led the Madison defense with 10 tackles. Robert Meador and A.J. Butler followed with 7 tackles apiece.

Madison will play their final home game against Rappahannock on Friday at 7:30 PM.

"We've got to be able to keep this enthusiasm and not just be satisfied with a win," Dean said
Madison is 4-4 on the season and 1-2 in the Bull Run District.
