Mustangs sneak by Madison

MADISON - A wild finish to the opening game in Bull Run District play for Madison led to George Mason shocking Madison with 46 seconds to go.
Mason's Charlie Mann ran the ball one yard into the end zone for the go-ahead touchdown and the win in high scoring 44-43 game.
Mason scored the game's first touchdown in the first quarter and held onto the lead until the Mountaineers' Andre Parker picked up a fumble by Mustangs quarterback Mike Schwengel fumble and ran it back a yard to the end zone making it a 7-7 game. Madison would score another 14 in the second quarter to Mason's six making the halftime score 21-13 in favor of the Mountaineers.
The game continued to be a tight affair in the third quarter as Mason scored eight to Madison's seven.
Madison played well on offense with quarterback Will Taylor hitting his receivers for 149 yards passing. He was 8 of 14 on the night and threw one touchdown.
Demetrick Johnson blasted through the line for 149 yards on 18 carries on the night. Logan Terrell had 69 yards on 13 runs. Devon Boone caught 97 yards worth on 4 catches on the night. Johnson, Terrell, Logan Dodson and Dylan Shifflette each had one catch.
Madison's pass defense also played well against Mason's few passing attempts on the night. Mike Schwengel for Mason threw for 71 yards on four completions. He also threw an interception to Madison's Ryan Banks.
On the ground, however, the Mustangs were able to get production out of their flexbone offense. Charlie Mann had a touchdown and 75 yards on 12 carries. John Mann had 3 touchdowns on nine carries and 12 yards. Joel Chandler also had 127 yards on 14 carries.
Madison was led in tackles by Logan Terrell who had eight. Alongside him with eight tackles were Robert Meador and Devon Boone.
Madison (3-3, 0-1) will play at Strasburg next week at 7:30.
