Pitching propels Sting to fast start

The Central Virginia Sting improved to 12-3 this season with two wins this past weekend.
In Saturday's 14-5 win over Western Albemarle, Trevor Funk, Brandon Scott, Matt Torres, Allen Beall, and Garrett Cole all had multiple hits.
Matt Ward and Brandon Scott doubled and Nolan Jenkins picked up a triple.
Matt Ward pitched three scoreless innings striking out three. Trevor Funk, Braxton Decker, and Brad Settle each pitched two innings.
In Sunday's match-up, the undefeated Harrisonburg team came to Culpeper and was handed a 5-3 loss by the Sting.
Sting players had nine hits. Allen Beall doubled to lead the Sting offense.
On the mound, Brad Settle pitched three innings striking out three. Jeremy Brown pitched four innings, picking up the win, and struck out nine.
Matt Ward earned the save, giving up one hit and striking out five over the final two innings.
The Sting pitching staff has been outstanding this year with a combined ERA of just 2.73 through fifteen games.
The team will be on the road this weekend when they travel to Petersburg, Virginia to compete in the CABA Virginia State Baseball Championship. The Sting will square off against the Richmond Braves and Western Branch High School from Chesapeake, Virginia Saturday. Sunday's games will be determined by results of Saturday's pool play.
The title game will take place Sunday afternoon at Prince George High School.
