Post 330 wins home run derby against Dumfries

The Culpeper American Legion Post 330 baseball team met Post 28 from Dumfries on Legion Field Saturday and came away with a 10-8 victory after the two teams combined for six home runs.
Post 28 jumped ahead early with a grand slam home run to take a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Dumfries connected on a second homer in the third to take a 6-2 lead.
Culpeper held Post 28 scoreless in the fourth and put together a five-run inning to take their first lead of the day. Colin Harris connected on a two-run home run and Josh Gardiner hit a solo shot in the inning as well.
Dumfries regained the lead in the fifth inning with another home run, but Post 330 catcher Allen Beall hit a solo shot in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at eight.
Beall then brought the go-ahead run across the plate in the seventh, and Harris hit a line drive that rolled all the way to the fence to score the final run and secure the victory.
Beall led Post 330 from the plate going 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs, while Harris went 2-for-3 with a homer and three RBIs, Josh Gardiner finished 3-for-4 with a homer, a triple and an RBI and Matt Ward went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.
Madison graduate Justin Dodson got the start from the mound for Post 330 and pitched a little over three innings, giving up five runs and three hits while striking out two. Harris replaced him in the third and earned the win, going 5 2/3 innings with seven strikeouts while giving up two hits and two runs.
Adrian Updike-Bobbitt came to the mound in the ninth and earned the save after facing three batters.
Post 330 will be in action again tonight at 7 p.m. when they travel to the Stafford Legion Complex for a game against the Post 290 Nationals.
