Track teams perform in rain at Fork Union

Culpeper County High School's boys and girls track teams traveled to Fork Union Saturday to compete in a regional meet.
In spite of the rain, both teams performed well, with the boys placing fifth in a field of over twenty teams.

Jeff Ferris won both hurdles and placed second in the 100-meter dash.

"I was real pleased with Jeff's performance," coach Kim Williams said. "He did an excellent job on hurdles. It was his first time running the 100 - and he did well on that, too.

Steven Reynolds, John Ross Hawkins and Cameron French also put in solid performances for the Blue Devils.

"Cameron did really well," Williams said. "He got a 38'6 in the triple jump, an event he's doing for the first time this year.

Williams was short some of his key players, and others didn't perform as well as he'd hoped, but he was pleased with the team's overall performance.

Dira Hansen and Denae Rogers earned medals for the girl's team, with Rogers setting a personal record in the long jump.

"Denae did a great job for us," coach Libby Ouelette." She placed fourth in the long jump and sixth in the 100, and just missed placing in the 200."

Ouelette said she was happy with her team's performance, given the sloppy conditions of the track and the caliber of the  competition.
