Senior team knocks off East Orange

Culpeper Senior softball defeated East Orange 4-3 in ten innings Saturday.

Sarah Bryson pitched all 10 innings with solid defense behind her.

East Orange came out hitting, scoring two runs in the top of the first.

Jessica Bailey scored the first run in the bottom of the fourth. Susan Routt scored the tying run in the bottom of the fifth.

East Orange scored in the 10th to take the lead.

Casey Mocarski singled in the bottom of the 10th. Carrie Crews’ bunt advanced Mocarski then Brittany Dodson’s single loaded the bases. Bailey’s RBI scored Mocarski for the tying run. Then Courtney Hitchings hit scored Crews for the game winning run.

Culpeper Senior Softball plays again today at 2:00 in East Orange against Louisa.

Culpeper National gets past Louisa
The Culpeper National 11-12 baseball team defeated Louisa 3-2 Saturday at Gordonsville.

A.J. Stead got the win, pitching four innings. He struck out three and gave up three hits. Nik Stewart pitched in relief, striking out four. He didn’t allow a hit.

Justin Gardiner led Culpeper at the plate, finishing 2 for 2 with two walks, a single, and a two-run home run. He scored twice.

Stead added a bunt single and scored a run.

Culpeper National advances to face the winner of the McIntire/Gordonsville game today at 3 at Gordonsville.

Out of luck
The Culpeper 9-10 American baseball team caught a tough break this weekend.

After defeating the Culpeper National team 19-4 Friday to improve to 3-1, the players thought for sure the had earned the right to continue their season.

Not so fast.

In a crowded district, Culpeper finished in a tie and lost a tie-breaker, ending its run.

Culpeper players help Orange American Legion team

Orange Post 156 American Legion Baseball has five Culpeper High School baseball players that have helped the team to a 9-5 start to the season.

Jeremy Brown is currently batting .490 with seven doubles and two home runs.  Hunter Kenney is batting .419 with a double.  Trevor Funk is batting .375 with two triples and a home run.  Robbie Whitmer has two doubles. 

On the mound, Jeremy Brown is 1-2 with 23 strikeouts.

Cody Whitlock is 1-1 with 21 strikeouts and Trevor Funk is 1-0.

Too bad some of the Culpeper boys are playing out of their district. I would suspect the teams Orange has beat would ever find out about that would not be too happy. Play by the rules and you can’t go wrong.
