CNN makes my eyes bleed

CNN usually gets turned on in our house in the morning before work and right before dinner. All I can take is 15 minutes or so, enough time to get the top stories.

The top story Thursday night, of course, was President Obama’s economic stimulus plan. Most GOP Congressmen and women say it is too heavy on new, unneccesary spending, like $75 million in smoking prevention programs. It seems like a lot, but when you consider the stimulus plan is $819 billion, not really. And when you consider Wall Street handed out $18.4 billion in bonuses last year, well…BRAVO to Obama for taking a vocal stand against that.

Finally, someone gives voice to the American people.

As for the money proposed for tobacco education, I can support preventative programs. Smoking kills people and it leads to higher healthcare costs for all of us. So yeah, let’s get out in front of it.

Not suprisingly—Republican Whip Eric Cantor told me a couple weeks he probably wouldn’t support it—ALL of the House Republicans voted as a block this week against Obama’s economic plan. Obviously, they were sending a message. You know what? God bless them for taking a stand. Our government needs checks and balances.

And then there’s the tragic comedy of Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich playing out on CNN. It is over yet? The Illinois Legislature unanimously outsed him Thursday and there was Blagojevich after saying he was sad about the decision and “waiting for my day in court.“

Really? It never ends.
