Last group of 12 finally pulling me in
I haven’t been keeping up with Idol very regularly yet, but I caught most of Tuesday night’s show while pounding my feet on the treadmill. Past weeks have left me bored and seeking other motivation to pass each mile, but this week kept me running.
My picks for the week are mamalicious Lil Rounds, you-know Ju’Not Joyner, Puerto Rico-Suave Jorge Nunez and Scott “pulls at your heartstrings” MacIntyre.
Lil Rounds? Wow. That girl has got pipes. I’ll admit I was skeptical when she said she’d be crooning to Mary J. Bring-down-the-house, but Lil Rounds had me thinking I couldn’t ‘be without’ her.
You’Know Joyner took a poppy white boy song and souled it up with some R&B flavor. I would have liked to see a little more energy, but I like his style. Although I wasn’t too keen on his comment about black people not getting the opportunities to pursue their dreams… ever heard of Barack Obama?
Rico Suave’s facial expressions had me cringing a little when he started, but his voice and heart won me over. But I don’t get the whole dialect coach thing — did they ever tell Carly Smithson to lose her accent? That’s what makes him unique. I mean hello, Ricky Martin was from Puerto Rico. Shake your bon bon!
And yes, Scott MacIntyre. I have to say I had yet to be impressed by Scott until last night, but boy proved he’s got a right to be there. What an inspiration.
