Maybe it’s me
I’ve watched all six hours of American Idol auditions so far (I know, I need to get a life) and I’m just not feelin’ it, dog. There’s been the usual mix of weird characters, people whose voices should be put under house arrest for creating a disturbance and OK singers. But, honestly, no one has jumped out at me like David Archuleta, David Cook, Brooke Smith and Carly Smithson did last year. No one where you say, hmmmm” definite Top 12 material.“ And the judges—except for Kara, because she’s new—seem to have become caricatures of themselves. Simon protests and mocks, but where is the passion? Paula tells everyone they look nice (yawn) and Randy throws in his usual “dogs” and “baby’s” but almost seems to be going through the motions. Kara, at least seems authentic but every time she tries to make a valid comment Simon cuts her off. Perhaps the producers are holding back to make Hollywood week more meanigful and dramatic. We’ll see, but for now AI is “jus awigght.“
