The 61st annual Culpeper-Madison-Rappahannock Farm Show took place July 8-12 at Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises on U.S. 29. There were several categories of competition, with hundreds of children and adults participating.

Taryn Bierhuizen, who graduated in June from Eastern View High School and will attend the University of Virginia this fall, took home two of the show’s highest honors. And as you’ll see in the list of winners below, her brothers Gates and Rykier also collected their share of awards.

Bierhuizen was the senior winner for the Frank Nalls Award, which is based on six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Kelly Brown won the award’s junior division.

Bierhuizen also won the Service Award, presented to the individual who has done an outstanding job in promoting his or her show, department and projects. The Service Award best represents the spirit of the Farm Show.

This year, the CRM Farm Horse Show was held July 3 at Summerduck Run Farm, with 21 exhibitors from the Hunter Horse Club, the Rixeyville Riders and the Clover Bud Club.

According to Kimberly Parker of the Rixeyville Riders 4-H club, next year’s goal is to have the horse show return to the ag center, where it was held for many years before moving.

“This will allow other exhibitors with other animals a chance to see the horses,” Parker said, adding that exhibitors from the horse show would also like to see the many other animals.

Below you will find a list of winners in several categories. The Star-Exponent plans to publish results from other categories as they become available. To submit results, e-mail community editor Jeff Say at jsay@starexponent.com.
