A father and son were arrested in the town of Orange Wednesday night after police found them intoxicated and inhaling Freon gas on the roof of the Silk Mill Grill, a popular downtown eatery and bar on Madison Road.
Police responded to the restaurant, across the road from Sheetz, after receiving a report around 8:15 p.m. that two men were on the roof inhaling something from a cylinder and yelling at people on the ground.
The container was later determined to contain Freon, Dupont's trade name for the odorless, colorless gas used in air conditionings and refrigerators.
After being helped to the ground by the Orange Volunteer Fire Department, Douglas Michael Twyman, 50, of Orange and his 25-year-old son, Douglas Michael Twyman Jr. of Remington, were taken into police custody.
The father and son are being held without bond in the Central Virginia Regional Jail, U.S. 15 in Orange.
Twyman and Twyman Jr. face charges of breaking and entering, grand larceny, entering a property to damage it, drunk in public, disorderly conduct and inhaling a drug or noxious chemical.
Twyman Sr. was also charged with obstruction of justice.
Fenwick said it did not appear the restaurant was damaged in the incident though it was through the restaurant that they gained access to the roof.
