The Piedmont Environmental Council is asking the Virginia Supreme Court to reconsider the State Corporation Commission’s approval of a proposed high-voltage power line project.
In a motion filed this week, the Warrenton-based environmental and conservation group asks the court to remand the case to the SCC for further proceedings.
In October, the SCC approved construction of two portions of the 500-kilovolt power transmission line through northern Virginia. Its routing would cross northern Culpeper County along U.S. 211.
Proposed jointly by the Trans-Allegheny Interstate Line Co. and Dominion Virginia Power, the line would run 240 miles from Pennsylvania through West Virginia, then to Virginia. The project carries a $1.3 billion price tag.
According to the PEC, a November report from PJM Interconnection, a company that manages the electric grid in all or parts of 13 states and the District of Columbia, shows that actual demand and usage of electricity is lower than first reported. Because the SCC relied upon the PJM report, the PEC is asking the court to compel the SCC to reconsider.
