Local organizers of last month’s TEA Party rally have planned another one, this time with a few historically themed visual aids.
Saturday’s rally is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Yowell Meadow Park. The event will feature music, patriotic readings and special appearances by historical characters Gen. Stonewall Jackson and Patrick Henry. The event will go on rain or shine.
Last month, under rainy skies, hundreds gathered in the park on April 15 — tax day — to protest government spending. The Culpeper rally was one of thousands nationwide.
Short for “taxed enough already,” the April’s coast-to-coast rallies were sponsored by the Mississippi-based American Family Association, a nonprofit Christian group that’s gotten the attention of legislators and corporations through boycotts and lobbying.
This time, Rita Grace, who helped organize last month’s event, said things will be a bit more relaxed, with more time afforded to anyone who wants to connect, fellowship and organize in support of issues they feel are important.
“It’s going to be very different,” Grace said. “This is hopefully going to be a nice-weather picnic kind of day.”
