A three-vehicle wreck involving a tractor-trailer on Bus. 29 near Inlet Monday afternoon sent two people to the hospital and earned one driver two tickets.
Sgt. Les Tyler, a spokesman for the Virginia State Police’s Culpeper Division, said the wreck happened around 4:30 p.m., just three-tenths of a mile south of Inlet Road.
Harry J. Mummert Jr., 39, of East Berlin, Pa. was northbound in a 1989 Marmon tractor-trailer on Bus. 29.
As Mummert approached traffic after he crested a hill, Tyler said, he swerved left into oncoming traffic, hitting the left rear corner of a 1999 GMC Suburban.
Mummert also struck a southbound 1995 Ford pickup truck, causing it to flip. The 45-year-old Remington man and his 21-year-old son in the pickup were treated and released from Culpeper Regional Hospital.
The 53-year-old Warrenton woman in the Suburban, her female passenger, Mummert and his two passengers were not injured.
Trooper B.L. Boggess issued Mummert a summons for reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.
Tyler said the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office and Culpeper fire and rescue workers assisted with traffic. Bus. 29 was closed for nearly 90 minutes, Tyler added.
