Terremark officials are assessing the damage after an electrical fire broke out in the basement of a data center on the technology firm’s Culpeper campus overnight Friday.
Steve Basnett, director of the county’s E-911 dispatch center, said the first call came in around 12:11 a.m. for alarms activated, followed soon after by a report of a fire in the building.
Terremark's campus, the NAP of the Capital Region, is located off Route 3 near Germanna Community College's Daniel Technology center. Company pokesman Xavier Gonzalez confirmed that the company is investigating the blaze.
“There was a fire in an electrical room in the basement of one of the datacenters at the NAP of the Capital Region at approximately 12:30 a.m.,” he said. “Our team, along with the local fire department, contained and extinguished the fire. Thankfully, there were no injuries. The datacenter’s redundant power systems worked properly and there were no Terremark customers impacted by the incident. We’re currently assessing the damage and investigating the cause of the fire.”
Basnett said emergency workers were on the scene for about four hours.
