On Jan. 18, two buses left from Culpeper to Richmond. The purpose was to let our state legislators understand the need for them to adhere to the Constitution as well.
Sen. Edd Houck asks what we are concerned about. I do not claim to speak for all people in the area, but some are concerned about his stance on the health care agenda.
Under the Constitution, states can refuse to acknowledge federal laws that are contradictory to the state constituents’ values and morals. Since the Democrat version has a mandated abortion clause in it, we ask that the Tenth Amendment be envoked.
Houck clearly stated in the Washington Post that he would not vote for Virginia to envoke the said amendment. We need leadership in Virginia that will be fiscally and morally responsible. An example of what could happen is that OB/GYNs who are morally against abortions will quit their practices. This area of the medical field is losing too many of these doctors due to the lack of tort reforms. We ask for Houck and all others to vote and legislate according to our 17-page Constitution.
On another health care note, why is there no word mentioned about HR 3400, which is “Empowering Patients First”? This is the Republican health care bill. It is more patient-friendly and has less government control than the Senate/Congress bill that is being debated. As I sit here, Pelosi and Reid are speaking of the nuclear option/reconciliation, which does not need a Senate majority of 60 votes but only 51 votes. If this happens, I hope Houck will listen to all constituents, and not just the liberal/progressives.
Just one question for Virginia Sen. Edd Houck: “Can you hear us now?”
