FBI investigating Orange Co. threat

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Orange County authorities say the FBI is investigating a threat made at a convenience store Wednesday night.

According to a statement from Sheriff Mark Amos, authorities were called to the Sheetz at routes 3 and 20 in Locust Grove around 10:25 p.m. The caller reported that a person who appeared to be of Arab descent had gotten out of a car and placed something in the ice cooler located outside the store.

Inside the cooler, authorities found a note that “made reference to Sept. 11 not being a joke,” and other “comments of this nature.”

Amos said no direct threats were made.

Sheriff’s deputies ordered an evacuation and the property was searched. An explosives-detecting dog was summoned from Stafford County to aid in the search. The property was cleared and the business reopened around 1 a.m.

Amos said all information was turned over to the FBI and federal authorities are handling the case from this point forward.
