James Madison’s Montpelier in Orange has partnered with Barboursville Vineyards on two new private label wines.
The Montpelier Virginia Cabernet Sauvignon and Virginia Chardonnay were unveiled Tuesday in honor of Virginia Wine Week, which wraps up today.
Barboursville produced and bottled the wines, which can be purchased in the Montpelier visitor’s center on Route 20, four miles south of the town of Orange.
“Dolley Madison always served exquisite wines with her meals,” Rick Payne, director of visitor services at Montpelier, said of the fourth president’s wife.
The chardonnay sells for $17.99 per bottle, and the cabernet is $19.99.
This year’s inaugural Virginia Wine Week highlights Virginia-grown wine at more than 100 restaurants and shops statewide.
