A single-vehicle wreck on U.S. 29 near the Route 3 exit sent three adults and an infant to Culpeper Regional Hospital Sunday night.

The driver, Mary E. Mavrommatis of Culpeper, was southbound in a 1999 Mercedes Benz behind another vehicle in the right lane when she veered left and crossed the median before stopping in a northbound lane, according to a statement she submitted to the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver reported that she had swerved to miss an animal in the roadway,” said CCSO spokeswoman Corey Byers.

The wreck happened around 11:20 p.m., about one-tenth of a mile south of the Route 3 off ramp.

Mavrommatis was charged with reckless driving. She had two adult passengers and a baby in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Hospital spokeswoman Abra Hogarth said Mavrommatis was treated and released from CRH early Monday morning. Byers had no additional information on Mavrommatis’ passengers.
