OUR VIEW: E-Squared winners care about the community

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Kudos go out to Eastern View students Zaneta Puller, Samantha Carlson, Liam Cornwall and Jazmyn Quaynor — winners of latest installment of the E-Squared program.

Winning the contest — designed to challenge students to create a product and a business plan, and market it to a panel of business leaders — took hard work, creativity and an eye for what best served the community.

Team ADAPT’s mechanical arm that assists those in wheel chairs personifies all three.

There’s no doubt that these future entrepreneurs earned every penny of their $5,000 college scholarships.

Congratulations to all of you.

Fredericksburg philanthropist Doris Buffett’s gift to Germanna Community College of $150,000 for scholarships was as refreshing as it was generous.
It’s nice to know that someone is still looking out for people trying to balance work, life and school.

We’ve all seen the ads encouraging kids to get outside and play for 60 minutes a day, but students at Pearl Sample know how important exercising your brain is as well.

More than 120 of them will try to log as many “reading minutes” as they can over the summer as part of the Read for The World Record challenge.

Good luck to all of you. And who knows? There could be some future E-squared winners with their noses buried in books this summer.

A tip of the cap also goes out to Paula Saxby who, at Germanna’s fifth annual State Simulation Alliance nursing conference, stressed how important it is for nurses to get practical training before working in a hospital.

It’s pretty safe to say that when lives are at stake; the more training, the better.

We should all feel safer knowing those taking care of us in our time of need are well versed in their craft.
