It’s absolutely fitting that actor and director Corbin Bernsen brought his new movie “25 Hill” to Culpeper. This is, after all, quickly becoming the Soap Box Derby capital of the world.
Culpeper has hosted the world’s largest Soap Box Derby race, produced three world champions and has a permanent track near completion. Why wouldn’t Bernsen deem Culpeper as having, “one of the leading small-town derbies in the nation.”
The Soap Box Derby has touched the lives of children and brought families closer together for decades. Building a homemade car is not only fun, but it’s also educational and healthy, as it gets kids off the couch and requires critical thinking and problem solving.
The derby has been a great thing here in Culpeper, and Bernsen deserves a lot of credit for making his film in the hopes of raising funds to help the derby stay afloat. He obviously knows the impact these types of programs can have on young children.

With the fall sports season coming to an end, we also want to take a moment to congratulate all of our young athletes for their hard work and dedication.
It wasn’t an easy season for everyone, but several teams made huge strides from last year, while others have plenty of reason to be excited about the future.
Eastern View’s field hockey team made its third trip to the Region-I tournament in four seasons, and its junior varsity football team brought home a Battlefield District championship.
Culpeper’s volleyball team swept the cross-town rival Cyclones and earned a spot in the district tournament, its boys cross country team locked up a regional berth and the golf team won its second straight district title.
This season offered plenty of suspense, excitement and promise. Now we can’t wait to see what the winter has to offer.
