Just one man's opinion on illegal immigration

»  Comments | Post a Comment

It is becoming more and more difficult to fathom what some folks in this county are espousing. I recently read an article by Charles Kenny in the Bloomberg BusinessWeek. Mr. Kenny titled his article “Be a Patriot: Hire an illegal alien.”

The gist of his article was (if I understood it correctly) that we are going down the tube as a nation if we do not embrace all of these unlawful people who are infesting our nation.

I cannot, plain and simple, understand why any citizen of the United States would for one second countenance a law breaking person being in our midst and to further compound this affront to the laws of this land by supporting and encouraging their presence.

Mr. Kenny says: “Despite being a country of immigrants, the U.S. remains vexed about how to deal with the fact that people from elsewhere still want to come here.”

True, in part, for this nation was founded by men and women who came from other parts of the world — immigrants who came here of their own free will (and others who were transported here in bondage or slavery) — before we won our freedom from the English who had won this land on the field of battle from the French and I might add after the Europeans (for the most part) had taken it from the American Indians.

I have no problem with his statement that “people from elsewhere still want to come here.” Let them come as long as they enter this country under the laws that exist and no other way.

Do you think that you could legally go into any other country in the world without meeting their requirements for entry? Fat chance.

He says millions (does that scare you? It does me) of illegal immigrants already here must continue to live and work (we have millions of citizens out of work) in the shadows, one false move away from arrest and deportation (you can take that statement with a grain of salt).

Some states have passed laws to treat these illegal immigrants as the lawbreakers that they are and to treat those who hire them as lawbreakers also. Good for them. If the federal government will not do its duty under the constitution I am happy to see that some states are willing to step forward and do their duty.

I, for one, do not care to see any argument, which attempts to justify permitting illegal immigrants to remain in the United States. You’ve seen the question “what is it you do not understand about NO”; well I ask what is it you do not understand about “illegal?” Selective enforcement of the laws of the land should lie only in the province of a dictator or totalitarian government, not a democracy.

Mr. Kenny states: Current U.S. immigration laws have all the moral standing of pass (sic) laws in apartheid South Africa. Do not permit yourselves to be led and misguided by false prophets.
