Town police have charged three Culpeper teenagers with numerous felony and misdemeanor charges related to several thefts from unlocked vehicles reported Jan. 21.
Police arrested Patrick H. Wilson, Jr., 18, of the 100 block of Garr Avenue, and Jonathan D. Singleton, 19, of the 10000 block of Dutch Hollow Road, late Wednesday afternoon. The third teen, Robert B. Moss, 18, of the 1900 block of Cottontail Drive, turned himself in Thursday morning at police headquarters.
All three teens face nine charges each. They each stand charged with one count of felony conspiracy to commit grand larceny, two felony counts of grand larceny, three misdemeanor charges of petty larceny and three counts of misdemeanor tampering with a motor vehicle.
On Jan. 21, eight vehicle owners reported to police that their vehicles had been entered and in some cases items, including GPS systems, flashlights and a laptop computer, were stolen. Some vehicles were rummaged through, with nothing taken. All the vehicles were unlocked at the time, police said.
“Some of the stolen goods have been recovered,” said Sgt. Wayne Hickman.
Officer Tim Sisk provided information that helped Hickman solve the case.
Several of the target vehicles were parked in the 1400 block of North Main Street. The other vehicles were parked on Thomas Way, Golden Rod Road and Duke Street.
Police continue to investigate other thefts from vehicles reported since last December.
“We cannot stress enough how important it is to lock your vehicle at all times to avoid becoming a victim,” said Chief Chris Jenkins.
