Captive Free has returned to the area, this week, after spending some time here last fall. A youth band of college aged students, Captive Free will be providing a family night performance tonight at 7 p.m., at Reformation Lutheran Church on South Main Street.
Coordinating with Youth Encounter, the parent organization of Captive Free, Pastor Brad Hales invited the group to revisit Culpeper this week.
“They were so well received last time we wanted them to come back to deliver hope to the Culpeper Community,” said Hales.
Youth Encounter, established in 1964 and located in St. Paul, Minn., has five national teams responsible for specific areas including the East Coast, West Coast, East Great Lakes, West Great Lakes and Central Plains. In addition, Youth Encounter has two International teams; Cross Fire travels to Eastern Africa and Watermark covers Germany and Eastern Europe.
To qualify for placement on a national team, individuals must be a high school graduate, usually 18 years of age. For International team placement, individuals must be 21 years of age or have had a year of National experience. An application process is required to be part of Captive Free.
Staying in host homes since they arrived on Sunday, the team visited local nursing homes and senior centers Monday and Tuesday and performed at St. Luke’s Lutheran School. After family night on Wednesday the team will head to Allentown, Pa. on Thursday morning.
Traveling to share Christ with others, Captive Free engages their audiences with songs, skits and puppet shows, captivating them with their enthusiasm and love of Jesus Christ.
Excited about their return, Hales anticipates they will “energize us and help fill us with the Holy Spirit.”
Youth Encounter partners with Compassion International, sponsoring children from third world countries; and Kids Against Hunger, providing food packages to bring kids back from hunger.
