A 55-year-old Culpeper woman is dead after the vehicle she was driving struck a tree early Friday evening.
Police say Annie Marie White, who was wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene as a result of injuries from the Scotts Mill Road crash.
According to Virginia State Police public information officer Sgt. Les Tyler, White was traveling west on Scotts Mill Road toward Route 522, when her vehicle ran off the right side of the road. When she overcorrected, her 2003 GMC SUV crossed the centerline and struck a tree off the left side of the road near Smokey Mountain Lane, said Tyler.
Two passengers—a 47-year-old male and a 48-year-old female—were not wearing seatbelts and were transported to University of Virginia Medical Center with undisclosed injuries.
Trooper B.R. Boteler investigated the incident and received assistance from Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office and Salem Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.
Tyler said investigators have not determined if alcohol was a factor in the crash and the incident is still under active investigation. The road was closed for about an hour while emergency personnel responded.
