Piedmont Regional Dental Clinic will host a “Children’s Dental Health Open House” Feb. 21 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the PRDC.
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. If you have a baby or toddler, you may have questions about thumb sucking, your child’s first dental visit, or how and when to clean your child’s teeth.
During the open house, parents will learn about when children should have their first dental visit, ways to prevent early childhood cavities, when to expect changes from primary to permanent teeth, proper brushing and flossing techniques, thumb sucking, dental sealants, choosing the right mouth protector for active children and adolescents, and teaching their children to say no to tobacco. Parents will also learn about the importance of regular dental examinations.
FAMIS outreach workers, along with FAMIS Plus, will be at the event to screen individuals for eligibility to receive low cost health insurance which includes dental care for children.
Eligibility is determined by gross monthly income so be sure to bring proof of income for the previous month by showing a paycheck stub or letter from your employer.
For those who are uninsured and do not have Medicaid, PRDC will also be doing screenings to see if you qualify for services at the clinic. Again, be sure to bring income information with you. Amerigroup will also be at the event answering any questions about your Amerigroup policy, along with a mobile unit that has a Wii, giving children something fun to do.
