WFC: MMA returns to Culpeper

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Four title fights will headline Warrior Fighting Championship’s second amateur mixed martial arts show in Culpeper Saturday titled “The Second Coming.”

More than 300 fight fans witnessed the WFC make history Oct. 23 when it held the first all-MMA show in Culpeper County. Two champions were crowned that night, and this weekend, one will be back to defend his title while three new belts will be handed out.

“We just want to continue making sure the fighters are taken care of and that we’re putting on quality fights,” said Eric Zamora, founder and promoter of the WFC. A total of nine fights are scheduled as of now.

Arthur Milam (2-1), a former wrestler at Orange County High School, will put his 185-pound championship on the line against Jarreau Mobley — a veteran of at least six fights.

Milam, who trains at Zamora Boxing Gym in Culpeper, won his title last month with a first-round submission of Chris Frazier via armbar.

Zamora-trained female fighter Gabby Holloway (3-0) will take on Marsha English for the 145-pound women’s title, while fellow Zamora-trained mixed martial artist Daniel Moreno (5-1) will compete for the 155-pound championship.

There will also be a 205-pound title bout pitting Carter Fox — who picked up a victory as a heavyweight last month at WFC “The Beginning” — against Ty Blake, a veteran of several Barbarian Fight Club shows.

“This should be an awesome show,” Zamora said. “I think everyone is pretty evenly matched, so there should be plenty of good fights.”

The event will be held at the Reva Fire Hall on U.S. 29 south of Culpeper. The doors open at 5 p.m. and the fights begin at 6 p.m.

Advance tickets are still available, and Zamora said he expects some to be available at the door as well. Front row seats are $40, and all others are $30.

Just like the last show, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Hearts Helping Autism — a charity aimed at helping those stricken with autism.
